Quartz

This is a silicon dioxide crystal with a hardness of 7. quartz's system is hexagonal in growth pattern and it is amongst the most abundant of the earths minerals. Quartz can occur in several different growth patterns including masses and fibrous forms.

Because of quartz's ability to thrive in a variety of growth environments it can be found within the content of many other fascinating minerals and crystals and even in granite and sandstone. Quartz plays a large part in manmade glass as well as naturally formed glass such as Obsidian.

Under pressure quartz emits an electrical charge known as piezoelectricity which has for many years been used in industry, lighters, radio transmitters, watches and much more.

The name derives from the Greek word for 'ice' and was thought by the ancients to be ice that would not melt.

Aside from the industrial use of quartz ancient cultures have long believed quartz to have healing abilities and certainly healers have used quartz and other crystals for centuries to alleviate pain and illness.

As the world becomes more and more uneasy crystals are coming forward that have more and more in depth growth patterns and meaning, much as they did it is written, in the lost city of Atlantis or with the ancient Mayan crystal skulls.

You may be drawn to the crystals on this site because you are a clinical collector of rare specimens….or there may be a deeper meaning….whatever the reason please enjoy this site.
